Whimsical Girls Bedroom
My little girl has been dying to redo her room. She had big ideas that included painting (pink walls, of course), all new furniture, some upholstery work, and so much more. I’m not going to lie, I got super excited when she mentioned giving her room a facelift. After all, I love a good transformation. But right now I am 8 months pregnant, and as excited as I was about having a project to do, I knew I didn’t have the energy to put in too much work. So, we made a few little changes, and presto! A whimsical girl’s bedroom was born! And I have one very thrilled little 5 year old who forgot all about pink paint when she saw flower wall decals!
This post is sponsored by South Shore Furniture as part of the Mom It Forward Blogger Network. But these ideas, the cute red-head, and all the things I’m about to say are 100% my own. And guess what guys? I would never recommend something I wouldn’t actually use in my own home.
We started out by creating little reading corner. This girl is just learning to read, and she’s REALLY excited about it, so I wanted to give her a little place she could sit down and enjoy reading a book. I didn’t have a bookshelf, so I grabbed a few wooden crates I had laying around, and stacked them up for a quick and easy makeshift bookshelf.
Then I let Molly go crazy with some wall decals from South Shore Furniture. She loved that I let her put the decals on all by herself (they were so easy to put on), and I loved that they aren’t permanent and they won’t damage my walls or furniture. In fact, after she put a few on, she changed her mind where she wanted them, so we just peeled them off and stuck them back on where she wanted them.
We also added a few paper lanterns to the ceiling above our “bookshelves” to add a little extra umph!
Don’t you just love the way this little reading corner turned out? It is such a happy little space, and really fits Molly’s personality. She and I both love it so much! I know she is going to spend a lot of time here and it makes me happy.
Next we added a cute little nightstand. She didn’t have one before, so she never had a place to put a lamp by her bed or a drawer to tuck away all of her secret things. I love this cute little nightstand from South Shore Furniture. It was super easy to assemble; Molly and I put the entire thing together with our pink tool set, and no help from any boys (except for the lifting, which apparently pregnant women aren’t supposed to do- but nobody said pregnant women can’t build furniture! ha!).
The nightstand was all white, and came with this cute flower decal to cover the entire drawer front, which is so cool! Not only does it match the wall decals in her reading corner, but I also know that she will never outgrow this furniture, because I can always remove the decal if she doesn’t like it anymore. And trust me, right now she LOVES those bright flowers!
I like having the space in the bottom of the nightstand, which can be decorated, or you could stick a little basket in the bottom like I did, for all of her treasures.
We also painted and hung a big paper mache letter “M” above her bed, with a couple of framed poster prints. Then we made a cute banner out of scrapbook paper, and hung it with some baker’s twine. We also sewed a few pillow covers for her pillows. Easy and quick.
I am in LOVE with the way this room turned out, and even more in love with how happy it makes my daughter. She stuck with me through every project- from assembling the nightstand, to sticking on wall decals, and everything in between. It really was a labor of love for both of us, and that makes it so much more special. And last night, when she went to bed for the first time in her “new room”, she was gushing with excitement. Ahhh, the joy of being 5 and having pink flowers on your wall, a polka dot pillow, a ruffled lamp, and a super cool nightstand to stash your treasures!

Oh my goodness, I love this room! You did a fantastic job! It is simply beautiful. Perfect for a little girl. Those flowers on the wall are adorable and I love the night stand too. I’ll have to show this to my nieces.
