Jewelry Cabinet (free building plans)
Let’s talk about jewelry organization for a minute, shall we? I have had this system for about the past 10 years… it’s called throw it all on the bathroom counter, then just buy new earrings when one goes missing. Ok, so my jewelry organization has been totally awful, it’s pretty obvious! I cannot find anything that works. I’ve had jewelry boxes, but my necklaces always end up in a huge knot. I’ve tried a little carousel thingy (like this), which I could see working, but I honestly have NO counter space, so having that thing take up so much room was a pain. So, I decided I needed to take matters into my own hands and build me something that would work to keep my jewelry and other random things organized. And I absolutely LOOOVE this jewelry cabinet I built with my husband.
I knew I wanted a mirror on the front of the cabinet, so it would reflect the light, and make things seem brighter in our bathroom. And above the toilet seemed like the perfect place for it. I love how it looks there. Like I said, I use mine for jewelry, but you could actually use it for whatever you wanted.
I also knew I wanted it to be big enough to hang my necklaces, and allow for some shelves for storing lotions and body sprays. The whole thing ended up being 31 x 37 inches and about 4 inches deep, which seemed pretty big until I got it installed, and trust me- I had NO problem filling it up!
All in all, I love how it turned out. I love the finish of the wood (I used this stain), and how it hides all the little things I don’t want sitting out on my counter or lost in a drawer somewhere.
Of course I drew up some building plans for this jewelry cabinet. I’m excited to share the full how-to, including the plans over at BuildSomething.com, which is Kreg’s new building plan site (you know, the Kreg Jig people).
