I am loving all things “heart” for my little girl right now. I love hearts on her clothes, in her hair, and I love using hearts to decorate her room. Hearts are just so happy and feminine. I love that the feeling they bring into a space. So, when I saw this amazing Ombre Paper Mobile, made by my friend Kami from Sweet Charli, I knew I wanted to make one for my little girl, using hearts instead of circles. Kami sells her mobiles, so if you don’t want to make your own, hit her up!
I just love the way this turned out. It is GORGEOUS in her room.
And it looks amazing from underneath too. Any baby would love to lay and stare at all of these beautiful hearts.
Would you like to make your own? I’m going to refer you back to Sweet Charli’s post, because her instructions are really much better than mine, but I’ll give it my best shot anyway.
You’ll need:
Evolution Machine
Heart Die Cuts
Cardstock (whatever colors or patterns you like)
Embroidery hoop or wooden square to hang from
Baker’s Twine
Sewing Machine
Start by cutting out a bunch of hearts. I used 3 different colors in a bunch of different patterns, with no rhyme or reason, but Kami stuck with an ombre effect, using solid colored cardstock, so you could really do whatever fits your style.
Once you’ve got your hearts cut, you’ll need to sew them together in strands. Just feed one heart at a time through your sewing machine, leaving a little space between each heart. Don’t be scared of this step like I was, it’s actually really easy, and works perfectly for this project. One word of caution… make sure to keep your stands separated. If they get tangled, they are a beast to straighten out.
You’ll also need to hang your embroidery hoop or square with twine…. If I’d have had an embroidery hoop, I’d have used it for sure, but I didn’t. So I used what I had- 4 wooden sticks, hot glued together in a square.
Then hot glue the top heart of each strand right to your embroidery hoop or wooden square.
Hang it up, and you’ve got yourself a paper heart crib mobile.
And I promise, your babe will love it just as much as you do.
