Summer Infant Sharp View HD Monitor {Review}
If you follow me on instagram (and you should!), you may know I just had my 4th baby about 6 weeks ago. That’s right, I am now a mother of 4! It’s like I just blinked, and I’m all grown up with a family. And being a grown up, with a family, I have some more responsibilities now… like making sure I keep 5 other people alive (cause we all know the husband isn’t keeping himself alive without some help!). And part of taking care of all of these people means being in more than one place at one time. Which was impossible until I had a video monitor!
I wouldn’t consider myself a veteran mom, but I’ve learned a thing or two in my time, and when it comes to baby monitors, I’ve come to realize that not only do I need to HEAR what’s going on where my babies are, I need to SEE them to know that everything is ok. So in the past 6 weeks (and a few weeks before I even had the baby), I’ve been testing out Summer Infant’s Sharp View HD Video Monitor and I have loved it. Now I don’t think I could live without it! I want to share a few of my very favorite features with you.
Night Vision
Probably more than half of the time I use my monitor is during the night. So having a good Night Vision feature on my monitor is SUPER important to me. This monitor has really good quality video during the day, when there’s plenty of light, and it’s quality is just as good at night!
Rechargeable Batteries
Every parent knows the last thing you need is something else in your life that takes a bazillion batteries. I swear I’ve spent a million dollars on batteries alone. And I would hate having a monitor receiver that always had to be plugged in. So having rechargeable batteries in my monitor is a MUST for me.
Temperature Display
This seemed silly to me at first, but I’m always wondering if my kids are hot or cold. So knowing the temperature in their room is really good information to have.
Pan, Scan, Zoom
Having a monitor that you could move remotely seemed like a luxury more than a necessity at first, but the more I use my monitor, the more I love being able to pan, scan, and zoom. I especially loved this feature when I was using my monitor in my older kids’ room. Since they share a room and their beds are on opposite sides of the room, there would be no way to see both of them without it. I can control the camera from my receiver, and move it so I had a good view of one, then move it and have a good view of the other. SO nice! This would also be SO important if I had a mobile child. I would always want them to be in my view.
Two Way Communication
This was one thing I knew I NEEDED in a monitor. I love being able to soothe and comfort the baby, when all he needs is to hear my voice. And, I love that I can also holler at the older kids when I see them doing something they shouldn’t. Sometimes when I’m upstairs and my kids are downstairs, I’ll put the monitor down there so I can keep an eye on what they are doing, and it’s nice to just push a button and have them be able to hear me. And I’m not going to lie, my kids think it’s pretty cool to walkie-talkie with Mom.
No internet needed
I don’t know about you guys, but I worry so much about having my video feed go over my wi-fi to my phone or something. I’m sure it’s safe, but you honestly never know these days. So having a camera and receiver that can pair together without going over the internet is really important to me. And, if I needed to, I could use my monitor anywhere and not have to worry about internet access.
Wall Mount
I didn’t ever even think of this one, but now that I have it, I love that the camera is wall-mountable. Unless you have a shelf right above your baby’s bed, it’s hard finding a place to put the monitor so you can get a good view of the baby. I have mine safely mounted on the wall above his crib, and I have the best view of him sleeping every night. The monitor comes with wall mounting hardware, so you know it’s safely mounted. (And the camera has a soft blue glow to it, so if my baby happens to wake up in the night, I’ll watch him stare at the monitor’s glow, and he goes right back to sleep. It is amazingly convenient!)
Expandable
I love knowing that if I want to add another camera, I could use the same receiver. This would be great if you had children or pets in more than one room. I am seriously considering getting a few extra cameras to keep around the house so I always know what’s going on, no matter where I am (yes, I’m a helicopter mom). And not carrying around another receiver is so awesome!
Thoughts on the Monitor
All in all, I love this monitor! It has all the features I could ever want. I get a nice, clear signal with no white noise or static, which is GREAT! Being able to keep an eye on my children is so important to me, and I feel really safe knowing I can be in two places at once with my Summer Infant Sharp View HD Video Baby Monitor. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a good quality monitor at a great price!
Oooh, I’m so jealous!
