The best family friendly Hotel in San Diego
When we thought about visiting San Diego, our entire family jumped at the idea! This Winter has been hard on us, and we needed to see the sun again! We had an amazing time, and I’m so excited to share with you guys this little gem of a hotel we found in La Jolla Beach. We think it is the best family friendly hotel in San Diego.
As I was booking rooms, I had a few MUSTS on my list. And The La Jolla Shores Hotel met all of our needs and more! Traveling with little kids can be tough, so making sure we had the right hotel for our family was key. Here are my must-haves when traveling.
Location
We knew we definitely wanted to be close to the beach. Since we live in Utah, the beach is such a novelty to us. So we wanted to spend as much time there as we could. And hello, The La Jolla Shores Hotel was literally ON the beach. The views could not be beat. This is looking out off our balcony to the ocean.
One afternoon, I sat on the balcony while the baby took a nap and watched my husband and boys play in the waves- it was amazing, guys! The private beach was groomed every morning, so the sand was soft and nice to play in, and there wasn’t any yucky seaweed to worry about.
My daughter, who isn’t as adventurous as the boys, didn’t really want to play in the ocean that much. She loved sitting on the balcony and listening to the waves. It was so sweet to watch her grow to love the ocean.
One more thing we loved is that we could go out to the beach at night, which we only did because we stayed so close. My husband even went out for a run on the beach at night. And yes, my little boy was scared of sharks- haha!
Enough space
Since we were traveling with kids (3 and a baby), space was a huge priority. We needed 2 queens and a pull out, with a roll-away crib. We had a Beachfront Deluxe Room at the Shores Hotel, and it was perfect for our little family. If we had bigger kids, I might opt for a larger room, but it worked well for our family. The kids loved being able to run out on the balcony and enjoy the fresh air.
Amenities
Traveling with a family, we definitely needed some amenities. I used the laundry services more than once, and my kids LOVED the swimming pool and Jacuzzi.
I always look for a clean hotel (of course), and because I’m a bit of a germaphobe, I’m a pretty tough critic on Hotels. I thought this hotel was really clean. It wasn’t brand new, and the designs were a little dated, but you could tell that they do a good job of keeping it nice and clean.
The hotel staff was so good to us too. They left a cute little stuffed animal in the crib for our baby, and he didn’t let it go the entire stay. Little things like that really made a huge difference in our experience.
I called the front desk more than once for restaurant recommendations, to ask where the grocery store was, and to ask about the laundry. They were always so nice and accommodating. I felt like we were their number one priority, and that was really nice!
Local Fare
When we’re traveling, we like to really experience the place we’re staying. We love to eat at local restaurants and do things within walking distance of the hotel. We almost always get pizza delivered to our room, but we also like to go out and enjoy the town. We loved that The Shores Hotel was SO close to so many local things. There was a playground right next door (and of course the beach), but we also liked the cute surf shops and restaurants that were close by. One morning we ate at the Hotel’s restaurant, The Shores Restaurant, and it was so good! We got to watch the waves come in while we ate- very charming!
I had the Chocolate Brioche Banana Macadamia Nut French Toast. I want to go back just so I can have it again!
We also enjoyed going to La Jolla cove- we saw Sea Lions and even dolphins! It was amazing, and just minutes away from the hotel.
If you are looking for a family friendly hotel in San Diego, I hope you’ll consider the La Jolla Shores Hotel. It was perfect for my family’s vacation to Southern California, and I think you’re family would have a great time there too.
